CARS
A few years back, I had a chance opportunity to photograph a beautifully restored 1956 Mercury.
Ever since I’ve kept an eye out for car shows, vintage car fairs…and shoot when I can.
I shoot on both, macro and micro levels, in an effort to capture the art of their design. I also enjoy talking to the owners
& hearing their stories. Once home, I’ll spend a week or so, culling through the 1,000’s of shots, for the selects, that best highlight the beauty
and level of design, in each specific car. Depending on complexity, I’ll spend 25-50 hours prepping images (retouching, silhouetting…).
Once the prep-work is done the fun begins.
I usually only have a vague idea of what the collage will look like, at the start. But over the next 30-40 hrs., there’s a kind of “dance” I do
with the pieces, almost puzzle-like, in continually flipping elements around, to find the best composition and color-palette.
Eventually, the collage reveals itself and through that whole process, a new piece of art is born.
